I used to work with a guy whose hobby was woodworking, but he only used manual tools. He would go to the flea markets every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to see what he could find. Before I left, he gave me a set of older tools that I thought would amount to nothing. It is amazing how many times I still use them even after all of these years. They come in handy at the most opportune times!
BTW, very nice site. I can tell you are following the teachings of Brian. Interesting how many people I run across that do. Also, I went back to the home page to post the comment….I didn’t see the option.

Thanks Christopher. I sure am following Brian’s teachings! I like your site too, nice work using a different wordpress theme. It gets a bit samey all of the sites I make with Brian’s themes look alike, but it helps when getting them out fast.
I noticed that you can comment on your home page. How do you do that, did you use a post or a page for it?

I have found that there is much available woodworking and other machining instruction and information in out of print and very old books. The technology may not be up to date but you can learn valuable and inexpensive methods for your work. Some of the old methods for woodturning are fantastic.

Hey, Thanks for this post.
I think that woodworking tool are not the most important part, although they have huge impact on the quality of your design.
In my opinion, the most important part of your woodworking project is using the best woodworking plans.

I agree with David, some of the original, “old” methods of treating wood are still very much “up to date’ and some are even still the preferred method of working with wood.
On my own page, I try to educate beginners in woodworking on techniques for building cabinets and on different ways to build furniture. Here, too, there are some old-fashoned techniques that are still used out there.
