Some good tips here. It makes sense to purchase good quality used woodworking tools and machinery and save a ton of money, especially if you’re not going to be using them an awful lot.

Great post, with lots of valuable information.
I would like to add that, as with all used tool purchases, look for signs of abuse which can indicate that the tool may be very hard to align and be accurate. Edges that appear to have been dropped, or pry marks around adjustments are two common items. In my opinion, there is no price to be paid for an abused and inaccurate tool. You can end up fighting it forever.

Interesting. Old woodworking machinery is so much better than newer woodworking machines. I would much rather have an old bandsaw than a new one and used woodworking planers are fantastic. Thanks for the post.
